REMOTE LEARNING At Westdene

We subscribe to a range of online learning platforms for children to access learning at home.

Please see the Home Learning page for details of these.

The requirement for pupils to stay off school if they test positive for Covid-19 has changed several times in recent months and much of the previous guidance has been withdrawn. For the latest guidance, please check this government web page and the NHS Covid-19 guidance.

As of January 2023, the latest guidance for children who test positive for Covid-19 states that:

  • It is not recommended that children and young people are tested for COVID-19 unless directed to by a health professional.
  • If a child or young person has a positive COVID-19 test result they should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days after the day they took the test, if they can. After 3 days, if they feel well and do not have a high temperature, the risk of passing the infection on to others is much lower. This is because children and young people tend to be infectious to other people for less time than adults.
  • Children and young people who usually go to school, college or childcare and who live with someone who has a positive COVID-19 test result should continue to attend as normal.

Remote Learning Provision

The Coronavirus Act 2020 and provision of remote education (England) temporary continuity (no. 2) direction expired on 24 March 2022 meaning that schools no longer have a legal duty to provide remote education. As such, we will no longer update our online learning platforms with new remote learning on a weekly basis. However, we will aim to provide work for families where children are having to isolate but are well enough to work, at their request.

At Westdene, we use the following online learning platforms as part of our curriculum, including for home learning in some year groups:

We also subscribe to several online learning websites that pupils have accounts for. You can find information about these on our Home Learning page.

There are plenty of other websites offering high-quality, free lessons and learning resources for use at home. Here are some of our favourites:
