Creativity in the curriculum
At Westdene, we pride ourselves on both our ‘creative teaching’ and ‘creative learning’. Nurturing learner creativity is a vital part of the curriculum at Westdene. Be it teachers using imaginative approaches to make learning more interesting, exciting and effective in core subjects or pupils developing creative thinking and outcomes for their learning, creativity is key to the success of our learners.
We place value on creative subjects such as art and design, drama, performing arts, and music. These subjects offer a range of skills or aptitudes that should be developed in every learner. We seek to include pedagogies and activities across the curriculum that enable learners to experiment, explore and create, whilst enabling teachers to experiment and innovate in what they teach.
